How I Strengthened These 3 Chakras While Doing a Social Media Detox

It's a good idea to take a step back and reevaluate the situation if you find yourself doing any mindless activity or feeling to attached to something.

As of today, I've been off of social media completely for about 3 weeks. This may seem like nothing but for others, this may seem like an eternity. Social media has a specified purpose for people; I use it to connect with others and help to share wellness information that can be used as quick references. However, it can take a toll on your life if you spend a lot of time chatting, sharing and giving so much. My idea to take a social media detox came without planning. I just decided one day that I would not check facebook, and that day turned into a week and that week turned into over three weeks.


I call that following spirit. Even at this point, I have no desire to check Facebook or other social media accounts because I have since nurtured these three chakras. Practicing meditation, quiet time, self-care, paying reverence to ancestors, and balance are all regular activities of mine, but I was able to put more energy into these actions when freeing and clearing my mind from the unnecessary.

1.The Sacral Chakra

In the absence of virtual connection portals such as Facebook and Twitter, I found myself opening up my spiritual archive and going within instead of pulling out. The sacral chakra is the wheel of energy that allows you to know yourself. Self-worth and self-love can begin to wean when you are continuously looking for responses (likes/retweets) or reassurance. Without this aspect of my life, I was able to encourage my own creative and find solitude in loving that.

2. The Heart Chakra

The heart chakra is the gateway to higher consciousness. This wheel of energy allows us to move into higher universal realms.  I took the time to redirect energy and time that I would have used online to focus on my commitment to truth, on paying respect to ancestors.

3. The Throat Chakra

The main chakra that was nurtured and aligned the best during this detox was my throat chakra. The chakra of communication, but not just communication, also of hearing and listening. Low vibrational energy, which runs rampant on social media, blocks the ability to listen with added perception. I like to call social media communication 2-dimensional listening - messages are voices with no sound. Sound organizes your thoughts, emotions, and allows expression on multiple realms.
